A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Tencent Games, part of Tencent, wanted to modernize PC gaming by moving away from a heavy client-server model to a thinner client and richer cloud experience. The challenge was to shrink GB-sized game downloads, simplify frequent updates, and still deliver the same or better player experience. Tencent turned to Microsoft Corporation and Azure Service Fabric to help build its cloud game solution.
Using Microsoft Corporation’s Service Fabric, Tencent Games moved parts of the game from the client to the server as microservices, enabling centralized deployment and easier scaling. The result was a much smaller installation package, seamless automatic updates, and faster service rollouts. This cloud-based approach reduced maintenance complexity and cost, improved development agility, and let players access the latest content with less waiting.
