Supporting refugees and reuniting families through the cloud

SOS Children’s Villages International, a nonprofit serving vulnerable children and families in 135 countries, needed a secure way to protect sensitive personal data while helping staff, partners, and refugees communicate across conflict zones and emergency settings. Using Microsoft Corporation’s cloud services, including Azure, Office 365, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint, and Skype for Business, the organization aimed to improve collaboration, emergency response, and donor communications.

Microsoft Corporation implemented cloud-based tools that let SOS securely store and share information, collaborate from remote field locations, manage an emergency staff e-roster, and host a media archive for global content distribution. The result was faster mobilization during crises, safer data sharing, better coordination across offices, and stronger donor engagement; in one example, shared beneficiary information helped raise enough funds for a child’s surgery in just two days.
