South African Eastern Cape residents benefit from digitally transformed services

Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, a large government body in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, was struggling with disconnected contact centers, inefficient case handling, and poor visibility into citizen requests. To support its goal of full digital transformation for 1.2 million residents, the municipality turned to Microsoft Corporation, using Azure alongside ComUnity’s digital cloud service.

Microsoft Corporation helped Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality modernize its services and migrate its back-end infrastructure to the cloud. The results included better prioritization of citizen issues, improved operational efficiency, stronger revenue collection, and major cost savings: a planned ZAR36 million data center refresh was replaced by Azure for about ZAR2.6 million, while also improving reliability and reducing service disruptions.
