Scottish nonprofit uses intelligent monitoring of elderly to improve quality of life

Loreburn Housing Association, a Scottish nonprofit social landlord, wanted to help older residents live independently while reducing falls, hospitalizations, and the rising costs they create for the health system. To address this challenge, Loreburn Housing Association worked with Microsoft Corporation through an ARMED solution from HAS Technology running on Microsoft Azure.

Microsoft Corporation supported the deployment of ARMED, which uses Azure Machine Learning, IoT, SQL Data Warehouse, and Power BI to monitor health indicators and generate personalized alerts and risk profiles. In trials and early rollouts, Loreburn Housing Association recorded zero falls and estimated potential savings of £9.1 million for Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership, with one development showing about £200,000 in annual savings and a 25:1 save-to-spend ratio.
