A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Samudra LED, an Indian designer and manufacturer of energy-saving lighting solutions, faced a major challenge after winning a contract to replace over 200,000 streetlights for the city of Jaipur. The project required them to guarantee a 77.13% reduction in energy consumption and manage the system for a decade, necessitating a robust IT infrastructure for centralized monitoring and data analysis. Their initial plan to build a data center was too costly and impractical. They partnered with Microsoft and its Azure cloud platform to gain the necessary high availability, security, and analytics capabilities.
The solution implemented by Microsoft Azure provided a secure, pay-as-you-go cloud infrastructure with 99.99% uptime, eliminating the need for a large initial investment. This allowed Samudra LED to efficiently manage the streetlights, analyze the vast amounts of data generated, and implement energy conservation measures. As a result, Samudra LED not only met its contractual obligation but exceeded it, achieving over 80% energy savings and setting a world record for the project.
