Romanian farmers better supported thanks to artificial intelligence

AFIR, a Romanian government agency responsible for managing EU funding for rural development, faced the challenge of a slow and inaccurate manual process for forecasting grant payments. This burdened their employees and hindered operational efficiency. To address this, they partnered with Microsoft and implemented a solution using Azure services.

The solution from Microsoft, delivered with partner Genisoft, utilized Azure Machine Learning, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, and Power BI to create an AI-powered payment prediction mechanism. This resulted in the time to generate critical financial forecasts being reduced from ten days to just ten minutes. The accuracy of these forecasts improved dramatically, reaching 80% across 25,000 projects, which significantly optimized the management of grants.
