Researchers saving priceless time for tumor patients with AI

Medical University of Vienna, Austria’s largest medical organization and a leading research institution, needed a better way to characterize tumors without relying on slow, invasive, and sometimes inaccurate biopsy procedures. Its researchers sought to use hybrid anato-metabolic imaging and predictive models to improve cancer diagnosis and patient care, and partnered with Microsoft Corporation, using Microsoft Azure and Data & AI services.

Microsoft Corporation provided Azure infrastructure and Azure Cognitive Services to power AI-driven analysis of hybrid medical images, giving the team the computing and data capacity needed for large-scale research. The solution made research faster, more accurate, and less time-consuming, supported ongoing projects in cervical, prostate, and breast cancer, and helped shorten the path from diagnosis to treatment while enabling more personalized therapy planning and potential long-term cost reductions.
