Case Study: University of Southern Denmark achieves stronger security and reduced alert workload with Microsoft Corporation

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the University of Southern Denmark Case Study

Research university reduces security workload by 60 percent with automated protection features

The University of Southern Denmark faced a surge of cyberattacks that overwhelmed its small IT security team and flooded it with false alarms, putting sensitive research data, health records, and other protected information at risk. The university needed a more modern, automated security approach, and it chose Microsoft 365 Education along with Microsoft security tools to better protect faculty, staff, students, devices, and applications.

Microsoft implemented an integrated security platform built around Microsoft 365, Windows 10, Azure Active Directory, Azure Advanced Threat Protection, and Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection to support zero-trust access and automate threat detection and response. As a result, SDU cut the number of security alerts requiring action from hundreds per day to about 10 at a time, reduced manual remediation work, improved visibility into attacks, and strengthened protection for roughly 5,000 devices and 30,000 students without slowing productivity.
