Case Study: Renewables.AI achieves smarter solar energy market decisions with Microsoft Azure and Apache Spark

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Renewables.AI Case Study

Renewables.AI uses Azure and Apache Spark to help build a stable and profitable solar energy market

Renewables.AI needed a way to help solar power producers predict electricity generation, coordinate with energy markets, and sell power at the best price in a fast-changing, distributed energy landscape. The company, working with Microsoft Corporation through Azure and Apache Spark, set out to turn complex weather, production, and market data into actionable intelligence for the solar industry.

Microsoft Corporation helped renewables.AI build its ADAMA data analytics platform on Azure Databricks, Azure Service Fabric, Azure Event Hubs, and other Azure services. The solution enabled the team to process hundreds of thousands of messages per second and hundreds of terabytes of data a day, while reducing infrastructure overhead so four data scientists could be supported by one engineer. Renewables.AI says this improved development efficiency and is aimed at helping clients increase revenues by €100 million and savings by twice that amount.
