Remote energy management solution based on the Microsoft Azure IoT

Samsung Electronics faced a challenge in the system air-conditioner market, where energy efficiency and remote management were significant concerns. They needed a solution to prevent energy waste and enable proactive maintenance for their products, particularly for small and medium-sized buildings without professional management staff. To address this, they partnered with Microsoft to create a new IoT and cloud-based service using Microsoft Azure.

The solution implemented with Microsoft was the S-NET Cloud, built on Microsoft Azure IoT Hub and Azure SQL Database. This platform collects sensor data from air conditioners to enable real-time energy analysis, optimal operation control, and early malfunction detection. The results were substantial, with customers experiencing an average reduction in energy consumption for air conditioning of 15-18%, and up to 25% in some cases. Microsoft's global Azure infrastructure also provided Samsung with a stable, scalable platform to expand this service into international markets.
