Case Study: Queensland Government improves disaster recovery response with Microsoft Azure and GIS People

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Queensland Government Case Study

Queensland Government - Customer Case Study

The Queensland Government, a large state government in Australia, faced a significant challenge in efficiently responding to and managing the widespread damage caused by frequent natural disasters across its vast territory. To streamline its disaster response and improve the accuracy of damage documentation for relief funding, the government collaborated with vendor Microsoft Corporation and its partner, GIS People, utilizing the Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

The solution implemented was a customized application called RADAR, built on the Azure-based Gruntify platform, which enabled field workers to collect geotagged damage reports from mobile devices, even offline. For Microsoft Corporation, this resulted in transformative outcomes: after Cyclone Debbie, the state saved over 500 hours in data collection time and approximately four hours per funding submission. The solution provided real-time, accurate data that greatly accelerated disaster assessment and reimbursement processes.
