Case Study: University of Incheon achieves streamlined private cloud management and cost savings with Microsoft Corporation

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the University of Incheon Case Study

Private cloud built to integrate 17 time-worn servers and keep up with new demand

University of Incheon needed to replace 17 aging servers and manage growing IT demand, but its existing hardware was costly to maintain and difficult to migrate all at once. The university evaluated Microsoft Corporation’s Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V and System Center 2012 alongside competing virtualization options, looking for a way to consolidate systems, improve management, and control costs.

Microsoft Corporation helped University of Incheon build a private cloud that integrated most of the 17 systems, with centralized resource provisioning and management through System Center. The project enabled faster server deployment, better use of hardware, and lower software costs, allowing the university to buy three HP DL380 servers and SAN storage; it also cut server setup time from months to less than 10 minutes and supported room for about 10 more systems.
