Portuguese destination city Cascais promotes civic value with cloud-based engagement platform

Câmara Municipal de Cascais, the local government of the Portuguese city of Cascais, needed a better way to preserve quality of life while engaging both residents and the many tourists who visit each year. To meet that challenge, it worked with Microsoft Corporation and partner InnoWave to deploy the CityPoints citizen engagement platform, powered by Microsoft Azure.

Microsoft Corporation helped implement a cloud-based, gamified solution that lets people earn points and rewards for civic actions such as recycling, using public transport, and attending local events. The city now gets real-time engagement data through Power BI dashboards, and the platform has earned global recognition, including the 2017 World Summit Award for best mobile app for government and citizen engagement.
