Owens-Illinois boosts workplace collaboration, manufacturing efficiency with Office 365

Owens-Illinois, a leading global glass container manufacturer with 27,000 employees, needed a better way to unify collaboration across its decentralized operations and improve manufacturing efficiency while protecting sensitive intellectual property. To support its transformation, the company chose Microsoft Corporation’s Office 365 and related cloud services to replace its on-premises Lotus Notes environment and modernize communication across the enterprise.

Microsoft Corporation implemented Office 365 tools including Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business Online, Yammer, Microsoft Teams, and Azure-based security and rights management. The results included 16 terabytes migrated to OneDrive, more than 9,000 users adopting cloud storage, over 1 million minutes of Skype for Business Online usage, and improved phishing protection for 700 top leaders; O-I also reported stronger cross-factory collaboration, better standardization across 79 factories, and more cost-effective internal communications.
