Open Source application on Azure increased voter turnout in presidential elections

ONPE, a government electoral body in Peru, faced the challenge of reducing voter absenteeism, which was partly caused by citizens having limited access to nearby polling places. To ensure a more democratic and inclusive electoral process, they partnered with Microsoft and utilized Microsoft Azure to develop a solution.

Microsoft, through its partner ITG, implemented an open source web application on the Azure platform. This solution allowed millions of voters to choose a convenient polling location online. The result was a 59% decrease in voter absenteeism in the subsequent presidential election, successfully achieved through the reliability and security provided by Microsoft Azure.
