Case Study: ASOS achieves real-time shopping experiences with Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB from Microsoft Corporation

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the ASOS Case Study

Online retailer uses cloud database to deliver world-class shopping experiences

ASOS, the London-based online fashion retailer, wanted to become the world’s leading destination for twentysomethings while handling rapid growth, seasonal traffic spikes, and the need for more personalized shopping experiences. To support its move to a microservices architecture on Microsoft Azure, ASOS adopted Microsoft Azure Cosmos DB along with related Azure services.

Microsoft Corporation implemented Azure Cosmos DB to power real-time recommendations, instant order updates, and low-latency order and returns workflows across ASOS’s global operations. The result was millisecond product relevancy scoring, highly responsive shopping experiences, and the ability to handle massive peak demand, including 167 million customer requests in 24 hours on Black Friday with an average response time of 48 milliseconds.
