Schneider Electric, a leader in energy management and automation, needed a way to help oil and gas customers manage remote rod pumps more proactively. Its Realift Rod Pump Control solution was initially reactive, monitoring equipment conditions after issues occurred, but the company wanted to add predictive analytics at the edge to detect problems earlier and reduce the need for frequent site visits.

Using Microsoft Corporation’s Azure Machine Learning and Azure IoT Edge, Schneider Electric built predictive models into Realift so pump data could be analyzed locally and used to adjust operating parameters or shut down equipment before damage occurred. Microsoft Corporation’s solution helped reduce unplanned downtime, lower costs, increase production and maintenance agility, improve worker safety, and reduce latency for critical decisions.
