Preview of the NTT Docomo Case Study

NTT DOCOMO boosts efficiency and reduces costs of mission-critical infrastructure with Microsoft SQL Server 2014

NTT DOCOMO, Japan's largest telecommunications company, faced significant challenges with its massive data warehouse (DWH), which managed over 1,000 data points for 70 million subscribers. The system was plagued by slow performance, with long processing wait times for data searches and inefficient batch operations, leading to high development and maintenance costs that hindered the company's ability to make quick, data-driven management decisions.

Microsoft provided a solution by implementing SQL Server 2014 with its columnstore index technology. The migration, supported by Microsoft Services Premier Support, resulted in a performance increase of at least 10 times for data search and extraction, with some tasks completing 100 times faster. Batch processing time was cut in half, development costs were reduced, and storage requirements were compressed by a factor of 10, leading to significant hardware savings and operational efficiencies for NTT DOCOMO.
