Case Study: Østfold Hospital improves patient care with Microsoft technology

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Østfold Hospital Case Study

Norwegian hospital uses innovative technology to improve doctors and patients lives

Østfold Hospital, a healthcare facility in Norway, faced the challenge of building a new, people-centric hospital with an IT infrastructure that could support efficient, high-quality care both in the present and the future. Their goal was to improve information sharing for staff and personalize care for patients. To achieve this, Østfold partnered with Microsoft Corporation to leverage its existing licensing agreements and implement a suite of innovative, off-the-shelf products.

The solution implemented by Microsoft involved a mobile-centric infrastructure using Microsoft Surface tablets, Windows Phones, and Windows 10, integrated with the Microsoft Azure cloud. This allowed for real-time information sharing from ambulances to bedsides, streamlined workflows, and improved patient safety with technologies like Kinect sensors. The results were more efficient operations, better room utilization, and enhanced tools for doctors that lead to improved medical decisions and patient outcomes. Microsoft’s secure and interoperable solutions provided a future-proof platform for ongoing innovation, such as using Azure Machine Learning for predictive patient care.
