Case Study: iRespond enhances identity and access for vulnerable populations with Microsoft Corporation Azure

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the iRespond Case Study

Nonprofit iRespond creates biometric ID technology with Azure

iRespond, a U.S.-based nonprofit, needed a secure way to identify refugees, migrants, and other at-risk people who often lack reliable documentation. Using Microsoft Corporation’s Azure platform, iRespond built cloud-supported iris-scanning biometric ID technology to help organizations verify identity, protect privacy, and improve access to care and human rights services.

Microsoft Corporation’s solution enabled iRespond to store tiny encrypted identity files in Azure and use portable devices in the field, even with weak or intermittent connectivity. The system was rolled out in places such as Thai fishing ports, South African HIV research programs, and clinics in Myanmar, helping register nearly 170,000 migrant fishermen and reducing duplicate records and identity errors while supporting safer, more continuous service delivery.
