New Zealand pipeline startup connects “spaghetti bowl” of systems in just four months

First Gas, a New Zealand gas pipeline startup formed from a merger in 2016, had just four months to build a greenfield IT environment and launch 10 major business systems. To meet that deadline and avoid expensive third-party software leasing, it turned to Microsoft Corporation and the Microsoft cloud, including Dynamics 365, Dynamics NAV 2016, Office 365, and Azure-based integration tools.

Microsoft Corporation, working with partner Theta, helped First Gas connect its systems using Azure Logic Apps, Azure API Management, Azure Functions, and Azure Service Bus. The result was a full integration of 10 systems in about one month and a broader rollout completed in four months, saving First Gas millions of dollars in SaaS fees and giving it a scalable, cost-effective platform that handled demand spikes and supported 24/7 operations.
