New York City Board of Elections speeds election reporting with Windows-based devices

The New York City Board of Elections, a government agency managing the largest one-day workforce in New York City, faced the challenge of slow and inefficient election results reporting. Their previous non-Windows devices were difficult to manage and update, leading to lengthy delays. To modernize its operations and report results faster, the agency turned to Microsoft and its Surface devices.

Microsoft provided a solution with the Windows 10-based Surface 3, which could be centrally managed and updated. This switch enabled the Board to report 75% of the vote tally just one hour after polls closed, a record for the city. The solution also paved the way for future applications like digital voter check-in and payroll processing, saving an estimated 1,500 hours and 6,000 sheets of paper per election.
