NEC Solution Innovators, Ltd., the NEC Group’s core software development and systems integration company, needed to modernize its slow, waterfall-style development process and break down siloed systems. Working with Microsoft Corporation, the company adopted a DevOps approach using Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines and Visual Studio Team Services alongside OSS to speed delivery and improve collaboration.

Microsoft Corporation helped NEC Solution Innovators build a DevOps pipeline with CentOS/Ubuntu, Docker, SonarQube, and Terraform on Azure. The results were dramatic: release cycles dropped from an average of eight months to as little as one week, the first Workplace Environment Improvement Tool release was delivered in three months instead of at least six, and development costs were optimized, with pre-release spending held to about 5 million yen versus roughly four times more under the old model.
