Mobile APP on Azure launches for George Municipality

George Municipality, a large government organization in South Africa, launched a municipal mobile app to improve citizen engagement and provide direct, accessible communication with residents. As usage grew, the municipality needed a cost-effective way to keep the app highly available, secure, and easy to support while migrating key workloads from on-premises systems to Microsoft Corporation’s Azure platform.

Working with Microsoft Corporation and partner BUI, George Municipality moved the app to Azure App Service, Azure Application Gateway, Azure Cloud Services, and Azure SQL Database. The migration was completed with zero downtime and delivered immediate cost savings, better uptime, improved flexibility and integration, and stronger performance, while also enabling future features such as mobile bill viewing and payment.
