Case Study: Minsur achieves safer, more sustainable water treatment with Microsoft Corporation Azure video analytics

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Minsur Case Study

Mine operator increases sustainability with Microsoft Azure video analytics

Minsur, a large Peruvian mining company operating one of the largest tin mines in the Western Hemisphere, needed a safer and more effective way to monitor its water treatment process at the San Rafael mine. Its manual visual checks at Point 4 were repetitive and error-prone, and the company wanted to improve sustainability and traceability while continuing to meet strict safety and environmental standards using Microsoft Corporation technologies.

Microsoft Corporation, working with partner Arkano, implemented an AI-based solution using Azure video analytics, Azure Cognitive Services, and existing cameras to automatically detect foam and alert staff when treatment was complete. The system was deployed in about 45 days without new plant servers, reduced overnight manual monitoring, improved safety and reliability, and freed employees for more strategic work; Minsur also reported faster process corrections and immediate operational control.
