A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Miami-Dade Water and Sewer, serving a county of nearly three million residents, needed a better way to manage an aging water and wastewater system spread across more than 6,000 miles of pipes and 1,000+ pump stations. With massive amounts of SCADA data and EPA pressure to improve reporting and operations, the department lacked the tools to store, analyze, and visualize its information effectively.
Microsoft Corporation implemented an IoT solution using Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Power BI, and related Azure services to centralize and analyze historical and near-real-time data. The result was the ability to process 22 years of data across more than 1,000 pump stations in seconds, with over 15 billion rows loaded and 4 million more added daily—helping the team make faster maintenance decisions, improve planning, and reduce costs.
