Medical Center Gains Cost-Effective Disaster Recovery, IT Cost Savings with Upgrade

The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) needed a highly available and cost-effective disaster recovery (DR) solution to protect its critical healthcare IT systems and ensure uninterrupted patient care. The organization also sought to reduce IT administrative burdens and manage its growing data center infrastructure more efficiently without expanding its staff.

Microsoft provided a solution using Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2, and Microsoft Azure Site Recovery. This implementation gave DHMC an enterprise-caliber DR solution with near real-time replication and orchestrated failover. Microsoft's solution saved the medical center an estimated $89,000 annually compared to a SAN-based alternative, reduced hours of IT maintenance work and application downtime, and enabled them to manage a significantly larger infrastructure with their existing team.
