Manufacturer to Reduce IT Costs by $2.5 Million with Hybrid Cloud Storage

Textron, the U.S.-based aerospace and defense manufacturer with 32,000 employees, was facing rapidly rising storage expenses and needed to cut IT costs while still supporting fast data growth. The company also had to keep certain sensitive data on-premises because of defense-industry security requirements. To address this, Textron turned to Microsoft Corporation, using Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Azure StorSimple as its hybrid cloud storage solution.

Microsoft Corporation helped Textron implement a hybrid storage architecture that moved older and less frequently used data to Azure while keeping active data on local storage. The result was an 80% reduction in storage costs, equal to about US$2.5 million annually, along with better scalability and improved data availability. Microsoft Corporation’s solution also shortened disaster recovery data access time from 48–72 hours to minutes.
