A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Mall of America, one of Minnesota’s largest entertainment destinations, needed a better way to manage guest experiences and maintenance across its 5.6 million-square-foot property. Before working with Microsoft Corporation, the mall had limited visibility into escalator usage and downtime, making it difficult to monitor equipment, respond quickly to issues, and support its customer-facing digital services.
Microsoft Corporation implemented an Azure IoT solution accelerators-based cloud environment and Power BI to connect escalator sensors to the building management system and deliver real-time analytics. The result was a more responsive guest experience, with escalator uptime improving from about 90% to 95–97% in the first six months, while Power BI dashboards enabled deeper data insights, proactive maintenance, and better energy-saving decisions.
