Malaysia builds its mass transit system in the Microsoft cloud

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRTC) needed a better way to manage the complex design and construction of the Kuala Lumpur rail extension after earlier project delays, design changes, and coordination issues created confusion and added costs. To support the new SSP Line, MRTC turned to Microsoft Corporation’s Azure cloud platform, along with Bentley Systems’ connected data environment, to help more than 1,500 engineers and construction managers collaborate on a common source of project data.

Using Microsoft Corporation Azure services, including Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Search, MRTC enabled real-time collaboration across thousands of models and documents. The result was a 35 percent improvement in collaboration efficiency, a reduction in service clashes from 4,000 to 1,000 per station, and greater confidence that the project would finish on time and within budget.
