Case Study: Malaysia Airlines achieves lower costs and greater innovation with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Malaysia Airlines Case Study

Malaysia Airlines, innovation's up and costs are down, because the company has more than its planes in the cloud

Malaysia Airlines, the national carrier of Malaysia, faced rising competition and needed to lower operating costs while accelerating innovation and customer engagement. Working with Microsoft Corporation, the airline began a digital transformation using Microsoft Azure, along with Azure ExpressRoute, SQL Server, and Windows Server 2016, to modernize its SAP and legacy environments.

Microsoft Corporation and its partner Tata Consultancy Services migrated Malaysia Airlines’ SAP deployment to Azure in six months and moved most of its computing environment to a hybrid cloud model. The shift cut total annual costs by about 45%, improved efficiency and agility, and enabled 80% of systems to run on Azure, with the airline now exploring Azure Cognitive Services and other tools for further innovation.
