A.P. Moller-Maersk, the global container shipping and logistics company, needed a more digital way to track and protect perishable cargo as it expanded beyond traditional shipping into end-to-end supply chain services. Using Microsoft Corporation’s Azure and Azure IoT Hub, Maersk set out to improve visibility and control across its refrigerated container fleet and support customers transporting food and medicine worldwide.

Microsoft Corporation helped Maersk build and migrate its Remote Container Management platform to Azure, enabling real-time monitoring and two-way control of 380,000 refrigerated containers. The solution improved shipment visibility, reduced downtime risk, and let Maersk scale processing in minutes instead of months; during migration, it handled a data backlog in as little as 25 minutes rather than 10 hours.
