Case Study: Madaster achieves scalable circular construction with Microsoft Corporation Azure

Madaster brings circular economics to the built environment in the cloud

Madaster, a Dutch non-profit in the building materials industry, needed a scalable way to track materials in construction and demolition and reduce the sector’s massive waste stream. To do this, Madaster built its platform on Microsoft Corporation’s cloud services, including Microsoft Azure and Azure Cosmos DB, to create material passports that identify building materials and support circular-economy decisions.

Microsoft Corporation helped Madaster implement a secure, globally scalable platform with services such as Azure Key Vault, Azure Container Instances, Azure Search, and Azure Storage. The solution enabled fast processing of large BIM files, on-demand compute, and privacy protection, while reducing infrastructure costs through pay-per-use container processing. As a result, Madaster now supports more than 2 million m² of registered buildings and materials, improving reuse potential, circularity scores, and cost efficiency.
