A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the LzLabs Case Study

LzLabs transforms mainframe technology solutions by leveraging open source on Microsoft Azure

LzLabs, a Swiss software company, faced the challenge of helping businesses modernize their extensive legacy mainframe infrastructure, which included massive investments and billions of lines of code. They sought a solution to run these workloads in a more contemporary and cost-effective environment without sacrificing performance or reliability. To address this, LzLabs turned to Microsoft and leveraged Azure Virtual Machines.

The solution implemented by Microsoft involved using the Azure cloud platform to host LzLabs’ Software Defined Mainframe. This open-source solution, utilizing technologies like Red Hat Linux and PostgreSQL, allows legacy mainframe programs to operate on Azure without any changes. The collaboration with Microsoft provided a high-performance environment capable of processing thousands of mainframe transactions per second, while successfully meeting critical enterprise requirements for security and reliability.
