Levelling the Playing Field at Manurewa High School with Innovative BYOD Programme

Manurewa High School, a large decile one school in New Zealand, faced significant challenges with digital equity. Many students lacked access to uniform and capable technology, which created a digital divide and risked putting them at a disadvantage. To provide all students with equal opportunities and future-ready skills, the school needed an affordable and effective Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) programme. They partnered with Microsoft Corporation and its partner to explore a solution using Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus.

Microsoft, along with its partner Cyclone Computer Company, implemented a BYOD programme that provided students with access to Windows 10 devices and Office 365. This solution offered the flexibility to work online or offline and enabled affordable device ownership for the community. The programme successfully levelled the playing field for students, dramatically improving their self-esteem, digital fluency, and career readiness. Microsoft's tools also saved teachers time and allowed for real-time feedback, creating a profound positive impact on the entire school community.
