A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
KT Corporation, a major South Korean telecommunications provider, faced the challenge of managing its increasingly complex network and a sharp rise in subscribers. Its existing operations management system, built on aging infrastructure, was struggling with the exponential growth in data and variety of new services. To improve performance and stability for its 20,000 daily users, KT turned to Microsoft Corporation for an upgrade using Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Microsoft's solution involved a strategic version upgrade of the existing platform rather than a costly and disruptive platform swap. By implementing SQL Server 2014 on new hardware, Microsoft helped KT drastically improve system performance. This resulted in data loading speeds that were three times faster and report generation that was up to 30 times quicker. The upgrade also enabled server downsizing from 256 to 173 machines, reducing total cost of ownership by an estimated KRW 5.7 trillion over five years and significantly enhancing the competitiveness of KT's network management systems.
