Kiwi Grower Prunes Costs, Defends Business from Disasters by Running SAP in the Cloud

Zespri International, the world's largest marketer of kiwifruit, faced significant challenges after a series of natural disasters and a virus that devastated crops. These events exposed the vulnerability of their on-premises IT systems and the need for a more flexible, disaster-resilient infrastructure. To address this, Zespri partnered with Microsoft Corporation and its partner Datacom to migrate its business-critical SAP applications to the Microsoft Azure cloud.

By moving its SAP environment and other applications to Microsoft Azure, Zespri insulated its operations from local disasters and gained instant scalability. The solution, implemented with the help of vendor Datacom, reduced IT costs by up to $1 million and allowed the company to focus on its core business of selling kiwifruit, supporting its recovery and subsequent global growth.
