Kimberly-Clark decreases software deployment times with operating system upgrade

Kimberly-Clark, a consumer goods manufacturing company, faced a significant challenge in efficiently deploying software updates and operating system upgrades across its 33,000 client devices. Its IT team, led by Director Dorothy Stephenson, was burdened by a manual and time-consuming process that took six to eight weeks for major deployments, costing valuable staff time and delaying new services for users. To address this, the company partnered with Microsoft to utilize the Windows 10 Enterprise operating system and its "Windows as a service" model.

Microsoft's solution involved implementing Windows 10 Enterprise and utilizing Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager for automated Operating System Deployment. This allowed Kimberly-Clark to drastically streamline its processes, reducing OS deployment time from eight weeks to less than two weeks—a 75 percent improvement. Specific results included cutting the OS packaging process from six days to 25 hours and reducing security update packaging from 30 to 15 days. The adoption of Windows 10-based touch devices on factory floors also introduced digital efficiencies, in some cases reducing equipment troubleshooting time by a week.
