Case Study: Johnson Controls achieves smarter, more efficient building management with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Johnson Controls Case Study

Johnson Controls - Customer Case Study

Johnson Controls, a global leader in building automation and sustainability, needed a more automated way to collect and analyze massive amounts of sensor and equipment data from buildings worldwide. Using Microsoft Corporation’s Azure Internet of Things Suite and related services like Azure Storage, Azure SQL Database, Azure Machine Learning, and Power BI, the company aimed to move beyond manual spreadsheets and create a connected platform for actionable building intelligence.

Microsoft Corporation helped Johnson Controls build a scalable cloud-based solution that connects thousands of chillers, rooftops, and building subsystems, processes about 14 million records a day, and stores roughly 3 terabytes of data in Azure. The result is real-time analytics, predictive maintenance alerts, and customized reports that help customers avoid failures, reduce downtime, and save money; for example, one chiller was identified as likely to fail within six months and fixed before interruption, and connected equipment can return online nine times faster than unconnected systems.
