Jellyfish Pictures - Customer Case Study

Jellyfish Pictures, a leading London-based visual-effects and animation studio, needed a more flexible way to handle massive, compute-heavy rendering workloads without постоянно buying expensive servers it might use only briefly. Using Microsoft Corporation’s Azure platform, including Azure Virtual Machines, Azure ExpressRoute, Azure Storage, and virtual machine GPU resources, the company wanted to augment its on-premises rendering farm and support artists working remotely.

Microsoft Corporation implemented a hybrid rendering solution called RenderWise, bursting workloads to Azure for on-demand HPC capacity while keeping data connected securely through ExpressRoute. The results included faster rendering, the ability to scale up to 6,000 Azure cores in about 30 minutes, a total 9,000-core rendering arsenal when combined with on-premises systems, and reduced CapEx, power, cooling, and labor costs. Jellyfish Pictures also used Azure GPU virtual workstations to replace costly physical machines for freelance artists, saving tens of thousands of dollars and better protecting intellectual property.
