Italian workplace safety organization reimagines building management for lower costs, greater security

INAIL, Italy’s National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work, needed a better way to manage security, visitor access, energy use, and building costs across hundreds of facilities. Working with Microsoft Corporation and its Azure IoT Hub smart building technology, INAIL set out to reduce long visitor wait times, improve datacenter security, and support sustainability goals.

Microsoft Corporation implemented an Azure IoT Hub-based access control and occupancy management solution, integrated with Outlook, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Data Lake. The system issued more than 100 virtual badges on day one and processed over 450 transits, while helping INAIL save on energy, cleaning, and security costs, improve user experience, and strengthen ISO/IEC 27001 compliance.
