How Kayas Cultural College and Surface Hub are transforming lives in remote Canadian communities

Kayas Cultural College, a First Nations college in Northern Alberta serving the Little Red River Cree Nation communities, faced low enrollment, limited teacher retention, and outdated distance-learning tools that made classes feel disconnected. The college needed a better way to deliver education to students spread across remote locations, and it turned to Microsoft Corporation technology including Surface Hub, Surface Pro, and Office 365.

Microsoft Corporation implemented a cloud-based, interactive classroom environment using Surface Hubs in each classroom, Surface Pro devices for staff, Office 365, OneNote, and Skype for Business. The result was a more engaging learning experience with real-time collaboration, faster feedback, and easier tracking of participation; Kayas reported higher enrollment, attendance, retention, and graduation rates, with 110 unique students passing through the college each year.
