Case Study: Munich Re achieves more accurate child nutrition data analysis with Microsoft Corporation Azure AI and cloud services

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Munich Re Case Study

How Big Data, Cloud Computing and AI help to fight hunger in the world

Munich Re, the global reinsurance company, partnered in a humanitarian data initiative to help Welthungerhilfe improve how it identifies child malnutrition in the field. The challenge was that traditional hand-based weighing and measuring were slow and error-prone, making it hard to collect accurate data on children who need nutritional support.

Microsoft Corporation provided Azure cloud and AI services, including Azure Cosmos DB, Azure App Service, Azure Storage, Azure Kubernetes Service, and Azure Databricks, to process and analyze large volumes of 3D scan data from the Child Growth Monitor app. With Microsoft Corporation’s technology, the project increased correctly measured children from 35% to 85%, helping more than twice as many children receive nutritional support and enabling potential savings of several hundred million euros in India alone.
