Case Study: Rackspace Hosting achieves secure cloud adoption for security-sensitive customers with Microsoft Corporation Shielded VMs

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Rackspace Hosting Case Study

Hoster uses Shielded VMs to help security-sensitive customers move to the cloud

Rackspace Hosting, one of the world’s largest managed cloud companies, needed a way to reassure security-conscious customers that its administrators could not access their virtual machines. Working with Microsoft Corporation and Windows Server 2016 technologies, Rackspace wanted to overcome the “conversation blocker” that was keeping some highly regulated customers in financial services, healthcare, and defense from moving to the cloud.

Microsoft Corporation implemented Shielded Virtual Machines, Host Guardian Service, and Nano Server, along with Azure Site Recovery, System Center 2016, and Operations Management Suite. The result was encrypted VMs as part of Rackspace’s standard offering, faster and denser deployments, lower hardware and management costs, and a stronger security story that opened the door to new business opportunities.
