A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital, a major regional healthcare provider in France, sought to enhance patient care and streamline operations by improving its access to patient data. Its challenge was the manual workflow where nurses had to collect vital signs from medical devices by hand and then manually transcribe the data into separate electronic medical record (EMR) systems. To solve this, the hospital worked with vendor Microsoft Corporation and implemented an intelligent connectivity platform from partner Capsule Technologie that integrated with its existing IT infrastructure.
The solution from Microsoft and Capsule Technologie automated data collection by connecting hundreds of medical devices directly to the EMRs. This implementation, based on a Microsoft platform including Windows Embedded and SQL Server, saved over 164 hours annually in data collection time. It also increased the amount of patient data collected by 56 percent, significantly reduced the error rate, and improved workflow, allowing nurses to devote more time to direct patient care.
