Historic Swedish municipality applies modern solution to security and productivity

Söderhamns Kommun, the local government in a historic Swedish municipality, needed to modernize an aging on-premises IT environment while meeting GDPR requirements and protecting sensitive data from cyber threats. Employees were already using flexible and sometimes unsecured file-sharing methods, so the municipality needed a safer, more productive way to support collaboration and mobile working with Microsoft Corporation’s cloud tools.

Working with Microsoft Corporation and partner Atea, Söderhamns Kommun rolled out Microsoft 365 E5 to centralize security and productivity in one platform. The solution added features like advanced threat protection, document classification and encryption, and secure collaboration tools, helping reduce reliance on third-party apps and improving control over data and devices. The municipality also reported faster deployment, better flexibility for employees, and stronger support for automation and future digitalization efforts.
