HDFC Bank uses machine learning to manage risk and transform lending in India

HDFC Bank, India’s largest private bank by market capitalization, needed faster and more accurate credit risk models to support lending decisions while keeping risk low. To address this challenge, the bank used Microsoft Corporation’s SQL Server 2017 Machine Learning Services to build scorecards for loan applications and integrate analytics more directly into its lending workflows.

Microsoft Corporation implemented SQL Server Machine Learning Services to streamline data preparation, advanced analytics, and machine learning within the database, reducing data movement and governance issues. As a result, HDFC Bank improved customer classification accuracy by more than 50%, sped up loan appraisals and disbursals, and enabled analysts and data scientists to spend more time building better models and less time on data handling.
