A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Halliburton's Landmark Software and Services subsidiary sought to make its DecisionSpace Well Engineering software more accessible to university engineering schools. The challenge was that the complex software was burdensome for academic IT departments to install, manage, and update on local machines, which limited its use for students and consumed significant time and resources just before semesters began.
To solve this, Landmark implemented a cloud-hosting solution using the Microsoft Azure platform. They created individual Azure Virtual Machines for each student, pre-loaded with the software and SQL Server. This approach eliminated the need for on-premises IT deployment for universities, drastically reduced potential hosting costs by 50% for Landmark, and gave students flexible access to the powerful software from anywhere on campus.
