Case Study: ZEISS Microscopy achieves faster smart device innovation and customer service with Microsoft Corporation Azure

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Zeiss Microscopy Case Study

Global optics and photonics leader creates smart devices by connecting field devices with back-end systems

Zeiss Microscopy, part of the ZEISS Group, needed to digitize its product line at scale while connecting field devices to back-end systems like SAP and Salesforce. The company also wanted a simpler, more secure way for customers to access its many portals and services. To do this, Zeiss Microscopy worked with Microsoft Corporation using Microsoft Azure and related services.

Microsoft Corporation helped Zeiss Microscopy build a microservices-based integration platform and a secure customer identity system. Using Azure API Management, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure IoT Hub, Azure Service Fabric, and Azure Active Directory B2C, ZEISS created an Enterprise Service Bus and ZEISS ID. The results included faster development, easier data sharing, and customer device software upgrades in minutes; ZEISS now passes about half a million SAP messages a day through the platform and launched its first applications in just a few weeks.
