Global Mobile App Company Translates Opportunity into Success with Azure Cognitive Services

Cheetah Mobile, a large China-based mobile internet company, wanted to expand its pocket-sized CM Translator beyond the Chinese market but needed reliable AI capabilities for real-time speech recognition, text-to-speech, and translation across multiple languages. To support this global push, Cheetah Mobile chose Microsoft Corporation and its Azure Cognitive Services, specifically the Speech Service, after comparing it with other translation and AI options.

Microsoft Corporation helped power CM Translator with Azure Cognitive Services, including ASR, neural TTS, Azure Cosmos DB, and storage, enabling fast, natural-sounding real-time translation through a simple one-button device and companion app. The result was strong adoption in China, where CM Translator became a consumer favorite in just six months and sold more than 15,000 units in one day during the 11/11 sales event, setting the stage for international expansion.
